I encountered the subject of this sculpure on Mid Yell near Basta Voe in Shetland. Although I had covered my head with a mosquito net, the otter had doubts about the new shape of ‘boulder’ which had appeared on his patch. I would like to think that I have caught his caution in the pose. He subsequently decided that I was not a threat and came ashore about 4 metres away from me to wash and clean his fur in the rainwater puddles.
