The corncrake is a difficult bird to see. You can hear the males calling, but they hide in the flag iris patches. I saw this one on the Isle of Coll. It was nesting, but not in the flag iris but in a patch of rhubarb, on the edge of the village. Coll is an RSPB reserve bought specially to conserve corncrakes.
