Most of the owls have great character, but the little owl is a fabulous addition to the British bird list. It came here as an import from America over a hundred years ago.
This particular bird nested in a small oak tree right next to a stile on a public footpath. The footpath is well used and I thought the bird would be disturbed, and move away. But, it managed to raise it's clutch. Hardly anybody using the path saw the bird, yet if you knew it was there it was easy to see. It raised two chicks, and has bred in the same nest for the past four years.
