Red Throated Diver
When I think of red throated divers,I always think of Loch Spiggie on the Shetland Island of Fetlar.
Fetlar is a special place. Snowy owls have nested there, and it is one of the few places in Britain where you can see red necked phalaropes.
One morning I arrived early on Fetlar and made my way to Lock Spiggie. The sun was fighting a heavy sea fret which was swirling around the Loch. Two red throated divers were calling somewhere on the Loch, a sort of booming call, but the birds could not be seen due to the mist.
Suddenly there was a shaft of sunlight which gave a passing glimpse of two of these iconic birds. A magnificent moment. A moment to cherish.
