I love the haunting call of the curlew as they drift over the desolate moorlands close to my home.
This sculpture, however, was inspired during a visit to the Monarch Isles in the Outer Hebrides. I had gone there in November to see the 5000 grey seals that gather there for pupping.
A real bonus was a flock of 50 or so curlew living on the island. I found the skull and beak of a curlew that had been washed up on the tideline and this gave me the inspiration to convert a sketch into a bronze curlew.
